Sourdough Starter – Quarantine

Quarantine – a very deflating word. Too much time in your hands and you don’t know what to do.

You browse your social media accounts, read about the pandemic and peruse for news about the guidelines for the quarantine. Then, suddenly, there’s a video feed. It’s a feed of someone who made a sourdough loaf. Your mouth starts to water. An idea flashed – maybe you can start baking your own sourdough bread!

With tons of information on the internet, in order to make bread, you only need the following:

  1. Flour
  2. Water
  3. Salt
  4. Sourdough Starter

Simple, isn’t it?

Wrong. You need to have a sourdough starter. A living and active sourdough starter!

In order to have a sourdough starter, you need tons of patience, time and TLC. You need to name him/her and take care of it like a it is your own child. You need to feed it daily, smell it and observe it as it is taking “form”. It takes commitment to feed it.

In order to create a sourdough starter, you just need water and flour. It takes around 8 days in order for it to be fully active. You need to feed it daily, starting from Day 2 until you have your active starter. There are tons of recipes on the internet.

You just have to wait for a week in order for it to be active.

Happy baking!
